The Boston College Eagles (6-1) men’s basketball team defeated the Boise State Broncos (5-2) 63-61 on Tuesday night to win the Cayman Islands Classic Championship.
The game was tight out of the gate. The Broncos had a slight advantage over the Eagles throughout the entirety of the first half, not letting their lead go until late.
Boston College gained its fist lead of the night with 2:07 remaining in the first half after going on a 8-0 run in the closing minutes of the half. The Broncos nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left in the half which knotted the game up at 26 heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the two teams battled it out on the court and went back-and-forth for the first few minutes. The Eagles held a 38-36 lead with 15:37 to go in the game, then the Broncos went on a 12-2 run in a little under four minutes to take the 48-40 lead. Prior to the run, there were three ties and six lead changes.
The Broncos kept their lead until the Eagles went on a late run that put them back in front. Boston College went on a 11-0 run down the stretch and retook the lead 56-54 with 5:34 remaining in the game.
Boise State regained the lead 61-60 in the final 12 seconds after a turnover by Eagles forward Elijah Strong and a foul by guard Josh Beadle, however a three-point shot by Beadle with two seconds left secured the win for Boston College.
