Brandon Mayhan named IUP men’s basketball assistant coach – Indiana University of Pennsylvania Athletics

Date:

INDIANA, Pa. – Brandon Mayhan was named an assistant coach for the IUP men’s basketball program in August 2024 and begins his first season with the program in 2024-25.

Mayhan brings with him a wealth of experience from Southeastern University (NAIA) in Lakeland, Fla., where he was on staff for the last three years.

During his tenure at Southeastern, Mayhan played a key role in the team’s success, contributing to two seasons with over 20 wins, back-to-back Sun Conference regular season championships, and a tournament title. He coached four All-American selections and seven All-Sun Conference players, focusing on empowering student-athletes to unlock their full potential through basketball.

“Today marks a chapter of immense gratitude and excitement in my journey. I am beyond blessed to embrace the role of assistant coach at IUP. I am very thankful to Coach Lombardi for giving me the opportunity to be part of a great staff, a winning program, and a prestigious institution. I am ready to love, serve, and inspire through relationships, and achieve great success on and off the court.”

Mayhan was deeply involved in organizing and executing practices, recruiting talented student-athletes, fostering individual player development, and conducting thorough scouting and film analysis.

“We feel very fortunate to have added Brandon to our staff as a full-time assistant. I believe that the experience he has will serve our program well. He has made good connections with the players up to this point and I know he will do a great job with helping them develop individually” said head coach Joe Lombardi.

Mayhan played four seasons collegiately at Chowan University, where he received the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award and was named to the Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference team. He earned an exercise science bachelor’s degree with a coaching minor from Chowan University in 2021.

IUP opens the 2024-25 season on November 8-9 in West Virginia with matchups against Glenville State and Charleston (W.Va.).
