Jets RB Breece Hall was sidelined during Wednesday afternoon’s practice session due to a lingering knee issue.
Hall developed the soreness late in Gang Green’s disappointing Week 11 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and even after the extended rest from the bye week, it appears he isn’t fully back to 100 percent.
The team will take a wait-and-see approach with how the star back feels throughout the rest of the week, but interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said he is “still hopeful” he’ll be able to play this weekend against the Seahawks.
“We’re just going to protect him from himself a little bit,” he said.
Losing Hall for any amount of time would be a huge blow for the struggling Jets offense, as he has been one of their better and more consistent players throughout the season despite ranking 30th in rushing as a team.
The 23-year-old has run for 632 yards and four touchdowns, while also serving as a security blanket for Aaron Rodgers out of the backfield, hauling in 46 receptions for 401 yards and two more scores.
But if he were to be sidelined, it would likely lead to a bit of an increased role for Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, who have been relatively impressive while receiving limited opportunities during their rookie campaign.
New York also brought back Zonovan ‘Bam’ Knight to the practice squad this week.
Additionally, veteran left tackle Tyron Smith missed Wednesday’s practice as he continues dealing with a neck injury, and it appears that rookie Olu Fashanu is in line to receive the second start of his pro career.
Ulbrich said that Smith is a candidate to land on IR, which would keep him sidelined for four games, likely ending his season.
