Juventus defender Gleison Bremer reveals he asked Giorgio Chiellini for advice on recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. ‘The worst is behind me.’
The centre-back was having a fantastic campaign until the serious injury ruled him out of action for six months, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the Juve defence.
He was soon joined by Juan Cabal, who also tore the ACL in his knee during international duty for Colombia.
Bremer sat down for an event with young would-be reporters in Turin and was asked about dealing with this setback.
“I am feeling better, the worst is behind me and I am slowly recovering,” replied Bremer.
“I spoke a lot to Chiellini and am asking him how he managed to get back to his previous level after the injury.”
The Brazilian was a huge €50m investment and made the rare switch directly from Torino to their arch rivals Juventus.
“The first year was all very different, you feel everyone’s eyes on you and if there’s a performance that isn’t the best, everyone is ready to criticise.
“I have a mental coach now who helps me. If you work the right way mentally and physically, you don’t have problems.”
Bremer sees Juventus as the big step up in his career path and is still excited to be part of the Old Lady of Italian football.
“Every now and then, I dream at night of this special jersey that I wear. It’s a unique feeling, because this club has won everything and is the biggest in Italy.
“Now that I am no longer available, I still have to send messages of encouragement to my teammates on our WhatsApp group.”
The 27-year-old only recently signed a new contract that holds him to Juventus until June 2029.
