Othmann was making a strong push to make the Rangers’ opening night roster as he played in every preseason game and was a participant in rookie camp.
With Jimmy Vesey likely out to start the season, there is an opening for another forward to crack the lineup.
The 21-year-old showed flashes of his potential throughout training camp specifically from a physical standpoint. He proved that he could use his big frame to create offensive opportunities for himself and his teammates.
Despite having an overall strong training camp, he now will have to shift focus to playing in Hartford where he should almost certainly serve a substantial role for the team.
This past season, the 2021 first-round pick recorded 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 points in 68 games for the Wolf Pack.
