Kadarius Toney’s time with the Browns has come to an end.
After a muffed punt and committing a taunting penalty during Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh, Toney has been waived by Cleveland on Tuesday.
Toney signed with the Browns practice squad in September after he was released by the Chiefs at the end of August.
He was on the practice squad for most of the year but was signed to the 53-man roster last weekend before the loss to Pittsburgh. In three games, he averaged 11.0 yards on four punt returns and took two carries for -4 yards.
The Browns have also placed cornerback Greg Newsome on injured reserve after he suffered a hamstring issue in Sunday’s game. With just four weeks remaining, that will end Newsome’s season. He recorded an interception and five passes defensed in 2024.
Additionally, Cleveland has signed receiver Kaden Davis, receiver Jaelen Gill, offensive tackle Julian Pearl, and kicker Riley Patterson to its practice squad. Patterson is a significant signing, as the team’s kicker, Dustin Hopkins, has struggled throughout 2024. He’s missed nine field-goal attempts in 2024, including a 38-yarder wide left and a 43-yarder wide right against the Steelers.
Hopkins hit 92 percent of his field goals last year but that’s down to 64 percent this year.
Finally, the team released defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour from the practice squad.
