TOWAMENSING, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been arrested after police say he attempted to evade arrest in a high-speed chase.

Police say they arrested Christopher Diaz, 35, after initially attempting to pull him over for weaving across the road and committing multiple vehicle code violations.

Man allegedly flees police, attempts to escape custody

Authorities say after an officer tried to pull Diaz over, he did not stop and a 90-mile-per-hour chase ensued.

During the chase, police say they used spike strips, which were successfully deployed on Diaz’s vehicle, but an officer did lose control of their car when trying to avoid the strips.

According to authorities, Diaz eventually parked in the rear of the Towamensing Volunteer Fire Company parking lot and was detained.

Police noted there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car.

Diaz was charged with attempting to elude an officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and other related charges.
