The Carson Senators will add 10 basketball players to the schools Hall of Fame this fall
Carson High School has a long, proud tradition of high school basketball success, and many of those Senators players will be honored this fall with induction into the Carson Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Carson boys won five state titles, including an exhilarating run to the 1975 championship. The Carson girls have won six state championships, most recently in 1990.
The 10 new Carson Hall of Famers will be honored at the second annual Dick Stoddard Basketball Hall of Fame induction dinner on Oct. 12 at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City.
The Carson High 2024 inductees
George Allison (1956): Allison was a three-year letterman for the boys’ basketball team (1954-56). The 1955 team won the Western “A” conference title with a 9-0 conference record. That year, he earned second-team All-State honors. He averaged 14.5 points and 15 rebounds per game.
Mike Griffin (1961): Griffin was a three-year letterman for the boys’ basketball team (1959-61). His 1961 team won the Northern Nevada AA League Championship with a 15-2 conference record, then beat Las Vegas High in the State Tournament before falling to Rancho in the championship game. It was the first state championship appearance for a Carson team since 1949.
Chris Padgett (1981): Padgett was a three-year letterman for Carson High basketball (1979-81) after transferring from Reno High his sophomore year. He helped Carson to the Zone Championship in all three of his years. The 1981 team finished the season 24-4 and made it to the Final Four of the AAA State tournament in Las Vegas before falling to the eventual champion Valley in the semifinals.
Bruce Barnes (1983): Barnes was a three-year letterman for the boys’ basketball team in (1981-83). As a sophomore, Bruce was a member of the 1981 team that won the AAA Zone Championship, and advanced to the Final Four at the AAA state tournament. That team finished 24-4 and 13-1 in conference. He was selected to the Northern Nevada AAA All-Conference second team.
Chris Rand (1995): Rand lettered in boys’ basketball all four years at Carson High. He became a starter his sophomore year and averaged 18 points and 7 rebounds per game. That year, he was selected to the Northern Nevada AAA All-Conference first team and helped his team to an 18-9 record. He is the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,689 points. He played at Alan Hancock Junior College, Holy Names University and Lassen College.
Prim Walters (1985): Walters was a three-sport star at Carson High (1983-85). Her basketball team won the AAA State Championship all three years and had a three-year record of 83-8. She earned Northern Nevada second-team All-Conference honors in 1983 and first-team All-Conference honors in 1984, and in 1985 was selected the Northern Nevada AAA All-Conference MVP.
Amber Andreasen (1989): Andreasen lettered in girls’ basketball all four years at (1986-89). Her teams compiled a record of 99-14 and qualified for the State Tournament each year. The 1989 team was undefeated record at 30-0, won the Northern Nevada AAA Zone Championship and the Nevada AAA State Championship.
Jennifer Gray (1990): Gray lettered all four years (1987-90) and helped her teams to an overall record of 109-7. Her junior and senior years the teams went undefeated posting 30-0 records each year and winning the Northern Nevada AAA Zone Championships and the Nevada AAA State Championships. Their 60-game win streak and two state championships earned the 1990 team a No. 20 national ranking by USA Today. Gray is in the top five Carson High scorers with 1,491 points.
Melissa Schreiner (1991): Schreiner lettered in basketball all four years (1988-91) and helped guide her teams to a four-year record of 106-10. Every year her teams qualified for the zone and state tournaments and her 1989 and 1990 teams each ended the seasons with an undefeated record of 30-0. The winning streak ended at 63 wins in 1991. The 1989 and 1990 teams won both the Northern Nevada AAA Zone Championship as well as the Nevada AAA State Championship.
Alyson Thurman (2000): Thurman lettered all four years in girls basketball (1997-2000). Her teams made appearances in every Northern Nevada AAAA Zone Tournament, advancing to the final game in 2000. Her teams also appeared in every AAAA State Tournament where they advanced to the semifinals three times. Her sophomore, junior and senior years she was selected Northern Nevada AAAA All-Conference first team. She is the the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,716 points. She then played at Lassen Community College and Sacramento State.
