Cavaliers earn 2 more tennis wins, move to 4-0

Sep. 18—Thomas Jefferson downed Carl Junction on Monday in a home match and turned around and topped Monett on Tuesday at home as well.

TJ won 5-2 over the Bulldogs and 9-0 over the Cubs.

The duo of Kyla Yang and Ester Yang led the Cavaliers to three of the five wins in Monday’s match. Kyla topped CJ’s Brooklin Leggett 8-4 in the No. 2 singles match. Ester won 8-3 over Brooke Jasperson.

Then, the two paired up in doubles play as TJ’s No.2 doubles and defeated Jasperson and Sofia Neal 8-6 to go a perfect 3-0 for the day.

The Bulldogs’ No. 1 Naiyah Wurdeman topped Jeanna Jeyaraj 8-2. Then, in doubles play, Wurdeman and Leggett took down Jeyaraj and Mason Solum 8-2.

TJ’s other wins were Solum over Olivia Bakos 8-5 in No. 4 singles and Warda Morsy with Madelyn Ro over Bakos and Tallie Ayton in No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-4.

Jeyaraj bounced back on Tuesday to lead the Cavs from her No. 1 spot with an 8-5 win over Monett’s Elizabeth Smith. Jeyaraj and Kyla Yang paired up to take down Smith and Vyla Smith 8-5 in No. 1 doubles as well.

Those were the two closest matches of the evening along with the No. 3 singles contest. TJ won 8-5 in that as well as Solum defeated Serenity Laning.

Every other match was an 8-3 win or better for Thomas Jefferson.

TJ is playing in the Monett tournament on Wednesday and then goes to Carthage on Monday next week for a 4:30 p.m. start.
