Champions Trophy 2025 tour route changed by ICC on BCCI’s objection

Date:

India objected to the trophy tour passing through Muzaffarabad and Skadru, part of the region called Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) by India

After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) objected to the route decided by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025’s trophy tour, the international body intervened to change it. However, the change was swift and the tour started as planned on November 16 in the host country’s capital city- Islamabad.

In the initial route planned, the trophy of the tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan, was to pass through the cities of Skardu and Muzaffarabad, which is part of the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as per the Indian government stand. Thus, it is not considered a part of Pakistan and hence the objection was made by the BCCI.

Considering the route disputed, the ICC heeded objections and the PCB had to change the route with the trophy now passing through Islamabad, Abbottabad, Murree and Karachi, touching the important landmarks, schools and colleges in these places. Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and current star Shadab Khan were seen posing with the trophy in Islamabad.

The trophy will then visit all the seven other countries part of the tournament before returning back to Pakistan where it will take another tour in the remaining important destinations.
