Chandigarh Cricket Association takes action against junior selector – The Tribune

The Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA), Chandigarh, has taken disciplinary action against one of its junior selectors.

Sources claimed that the said selector had not participated in the ongoing team’s selection process, which was now being done by only two selectors during the last 12 to 14 days. The selection matches have already been held at various local venues.

The UTCA officials remained unavailable to comment on the issue despite repeated attempts. False assurances of giving an official quote on the same issue were given, but only to avoid the issue it seemed.

“They won’t talk on the issue. There are reports that the selector has been issued a show-cause notice also. There were some disciplinary complaint against the selector and the allegations can be serious,” said one of the sources.

Earlier this month, one of the U-19 cricketers registered with the UTCA was caught tampering with his age-proof certificates. According to sources, as many as three players came under scanner when the UTCA officials were handed over two certificates mentioning two separate dates of births of the accused players. However, only one player was found guilty. Usually, before registering the players with the association a proper verification of documents gets conducted by the UTCA.

“If some action has been taken against the selector, there must be a big charge against the accused. And, if not, the UTCA could have simply refused. I am being told that a three-member quorum is needed to select a team.

However, the UTCA is carrying the same practice with two selectors,” a source added. Before starting the current playing calendar, the UTCA had hired a number of experts to start the season,
