Chapman and Abilene netters place in NCKL JV Tennis Tournament

ABILENE – The Chapman Lady Irish and the Abilene Cowgirls finished the junior varsity tennis season with three placers each in the NCKL JV Tournament Monday in Abilene.

The Lady Irish took top team honors followed by Wamego and Abilene.

Chapman’s Addelynn Casey won the number two singles bracket finishing 4-1 at the meet. The Irish number one doubles team of Carmen Courtois-Sendejas and Zoey Peterson were perfect on the day going 5-0 to record gold. The number two doubles team of Carleigh Abeldt and Gretchen Jones were 4-1 for second place in two doubles. Madison Gardner went 2-3 in number one singles for Chapman.

Abilene’s number two doubles team of Lily Benton and Hope Dannefer brought home gold for the Cowgirls finishing 5-0 on the day. Mandi Simenson and Miranda Radenberg each finished third place in one and two singles respectively. The Cowgirl doubles team of Kit Barbieri and Lizzie Brooks tied for third with Wamego, but the ladies from Wamego won the tie breaker for third place medal.

A total of three points separated the top three teams as Chapman finished with 37, Wamego 35 and Abilene with 34. Marysville and Clay Center also competed in the JV Tournament.

Marysville’s Kaytee Breschears won the number one singles bracket while Wamego’s Tatumn Vanderbilt was second at number ones. Red Raider Natasha Boyce took second in number two singles and the doubles team of Amelliah Burdreau and Carus Donahue took second place and the doubles team of Liberty Sharpe and Ausha Welfgang placed third in the twos doubles for Wamego.
