Paris Saint-Germain received a first-row view of an Arsenal team that has been under manager Mikel Arteta for multiple years when the Gunners defeated the capital 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium.
After the match, Luis Enrique highlighted the contrast between Arsenal and PSG, noting how Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, have had stability with both a manager and a clear vision for several years, while PSG are still adjusting, having had him as their manager for less than two years.
Nonetheless, Enrique isn’t the only one noting that Arsenal are ahead of their squad due to having Arteta on the side for the last few years. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca and his team have had a fantastic start to the season, and with that comes rising expectations.
The Blues are in fourth place, one point behind Arsenal and two points away from first-place Liverpool. Nonetheless, Maresca noted that if Enrique struggles with the North London side, don’t expect Chelsea to challenge them.
“I really don’t think we can compete with City or Arsenal,’ Maresca said (h/t Chelsea.News). ‘I really don’t think that because we are not ready. The reason is City has worked with the same manager for nine years and Arsenal, five years. If you want to compete for big things, you need that time.
“After Arsenal beat PSG, they asked Luis Enrique and he said the same: that Arsenal have had the same manager for five years and us, a year-and-a-half. Now imagine us, three months.”
