Clovis 911 callers report gunshots, crashes before police find 2 injured Sunday

CLOVIS, N.M. — Police received calls about dozens of gunshots heard and multiple car crashes before finding two individuals with gunshot wounds early Sunday.

The Clovis Police Department said they received multiple 911 calls at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday “alerting they had heard from six to 30 gunshots in the area of the 900 block of Plaza Drive,” a news release said. Clovis police officers and Clovis Fire Department personnel then went to the scene.

On their arrival, officers reported that multiple car crashes had taken place on Plaza, and a 17-year-old had a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken by Clovis EMS to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment. Clovis police said he was then transferred to a Lubbock-area hospital after his condition stabilized.

Also injured at the West Plaza Drive scene was a 24-year-old woman, who had been taken to Plains Regional Medical Center in a personal vehicle. She received a gunshot wound to the face, police said.

Clovis police said officers found multiple casings of varying calibers in the roadway.

As of Sunday, the teen was in critical condition but stable. The woman’s condition was not provided, but she was reported to be stable.

“The Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit is actively investigating this incident. Additional information related to this case will be forwarded when available. No arrests have been made at this time,” the release stated.
