Colchester condemn allegation of racist abuse at Fleetwood

Date:

Colchester United have condemned an incident of alleged racist abuse aimed at one of their players during a League Two game – for the second time this season.

The allegation was made after the U’s goalless draw at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium on Saturday, 30 November.

It comes after racist abuse was allegedly directed at Colchester striker Samson Tovide during a 1-1 draw at Accrington in August.

Colchester posted on X they were “very disappointed” to hear about the allegation, and were “fully supporting Fleetwood in their investigations along with the police”.

Fleetwood said on their website they “take all reports of discrimination incredibly seriously and are fully cooperating with Lancashire Constabulary who are now investigating the matter”.

The club added they “stand side by side” with the English Football League (EFL) in having “zero tolerance to tackling racism within the game”.
