Social media was rife with tributes and reactions of utter shock following Thursday’s news that USF men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim had died earlier in the day at age 43 during a surgical procedure.
The outpouring arrived from peers, players, USF colleagues and college hoops analysts across the region and nation.
“I am devastated by the sudden passing of my good friend Amir Abdur-Rahim, an outstanding man, husband, father and leader who brought tremendous positive energy to all he encountered,” Bulls football coach Alex Golesh said in a post on X.
“My heart breaks for his wife, Arianne, his three children, extended family and many friends. My prayers and those of our entire football program are with them as well as his players and staff during this incredibly difficult time.”
Added longtime CBS Sports college analyst Seth Davis: “Good Lord this is SUCH a gut punch. Terrific man, amazing coach, had such a brilliant future in this business. Life is so precious!”
