The Colts claimed cornerback Ambry Thomas off waivers Wednesday, the team announced.
The 49ers cut Thomas from injured reserve Tuesday.
He fractured his right forearm in training camp in August and has yet to play in 2024.
A 2021 third-round pick out of Michigan, Thomas has 11 starts in 42 games over his first three NFL seasons. He has totaled two interceptions and 12 pass breakups.
Thomas has played 855 defensive snaps in his career, seeing 49 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in the 15 games he played last season.
The Colts were in need of depth behind Samuel Womack and Jaylon Jones. Cornerback JuJu Brents was designated for return from injured reserve, so he also could help.
