Could adding a left-back be a move Manchester City will consider?

The January transfer window is only a couple of months away. It does appear that signing a midfielder will be high on the list of priorities for Manchester City. The champions also appear in need of a striker to provide support for Erling Haaland. But could Manchester City also target a left-back in January? It wouldn’t be a surprise to see City target another full-back to help cope with a heavy schedule in the second half of the season.

Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City have shown an interest in signing Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson. Furthermore, Rust and Jones report that Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have also shown an interest in signing the American international. Jones and Rust go on to report that Fulham have set an asking price of over £40 million for Robinson. Lastly, the GIVEMESPORT report adds that Fulham are unlikely to sell Antonee Robinson in January.

Antonee Robinson would add something different to Manchester City’s squad.

Left-back has always been a bit of a problem position for Manchester City. Under Pep Guardiola, Olexander Zinchenko and Fabian Delph have previously played at left-back. Currently, Josko Gvardiol is Manchester City’s number-one left-back. When the Croatian international needs a rest usually Nathan Ake steps into the role. But if Manchester City were successful in their reported pursuit of Antonee Robinson he would add a different dimension to City’s squad.

Robinson has made an impressive start to the 24/25 season for Fulham. In 11 appearances in all competitions, he has added 3 assists. But statistics don’t fully explain the impact Robinson has on the Cottagers. Robinson is a quality defender in his own right. He has become one of the better left-backs in the Premier League during his time at Fulham. Robinson is also a weapon going forward with his pace and delivery from wide areas. His overlapping runs at left-back are a feature of Marco Silva’s sides play. The Manchester City squad has appeared slow at times this season and a quick full-back would help in this regard. The fact that Robinson is a quality player as well makes him a tantalising proposition to ponder as a future City player.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City’s reported interest in Antonee Robinson will materialise into anything substantial. But as player he would be a quality addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. The American international would add a different dimension to City’s squad. He is also a proven Premier League performer which makes him an ideal player to target for Manchester City. Whether or not City move for Robinson in January remains to be seen. Perhaps he will be a player they will target next summer. But there is a case there for Manchester City to add a full-back like Robinson to their squad.
