The 32-year-old has not represented his nation for well over a year, largely due to injury, but more recently due to a series of disagreements with the former Schalke and RB Leipzig coach.

The Real Madrid stopper decided not to participate in the last two international breaks despite being fit and eligible.

According to previous reports from The Athletic, Courtois was left frustrated by Tedesco’s decision to hand the captaincy to Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku while regular leader Kevin De Bruyne was out injured.

Belgium are due to host Italy in the Nations League on Thursday evening, with Koen Casteels likely to start between the posts. Belgium also have Lukaku and Juventus’s Samuel Mbangula at their disposal on Thursday night.
