TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team has announced the addition of two new coaches to the staff.
Kevin “KG” Galloway and Harrison Van Dyke have joined the team for the upcoming season.
Galloway played for CSI during the 07-08 season before transferring to the University of Kentucky.
Following Kentucky, he had a 14-year international career where he played professionally in multiple countries like Japan, Greece, Qatar, Lebanon, Uruguay, and Iraq.
He returned to Southern Idaho and will be a key piece in player development for the Golden Eagles in the upcoming season.
“It feels good to be back,” Galloway told KMVT. “I got a lot of adrenaline and pride. I’m ready for the challenge.
He’s excited to coach the athletes as he’s been in their shoes before.
“Kevin Galloway is one of the greats to play at CSI. We’ve been in conversations over my time here and the timing for him to join our staff worked out perfectly,” said head coach Jeff Reinert in a press release. “Kevin is an extremely upbeat and positive coach that has played at the highest level, his individual training will help our players maximize their abilities.”
Along with Galloway, Harrison van dyke joins the program.
He worked with the Utah Utes men’s team as a manager and grad assistant for six years. Van Dyke and assistant coach AJ Demond worked together at Utah for some time.
“Jeff (Reinert) and AJ sold me on what CSI is,” Van Dyke told KMVT. “It’s a storied JUCO program with great kids, talent, and support from the community. I was sold from the second I walked in.”
Last year, the Utes finished 22-15 overall with a dominant 17-2 record at home and a deep postseason run to the NIT semifinals. Van Dyke worked with players such as Branden Carlson and Deivon Smith, both of which were All-Pac-12 honorees.
Van dyke loved the jump to CSI to be in a bigger coaching role and knows what it takes to get the best of the players to make the jump to the next level.
“I’ve been in those locker rooms, been in those conversations, and been behind closed doors in those meetings so I know what it takes,” Van Dyke said. “I hope I can bring that mentality and show these kids and players that this is the standard. If you want to get to the next level, you need to do whatever it takes make it to those levels.”
You can catch both coaches and the new-look CSI basketball teams on Tuesday, Oct 1, for the annual CSI Basketball Bash.
Both teams will hold an intra-squad scrimmage. The men’s team will take on the women’s team in a 3-point shooting contest and several members of the men’s squad will compete in a dunk contest.
The CSI Cheer, Dance, and Pep Band will perform as well as a special appearance by the CSI Mini Eagles Flight Crew.
