Darius Adams, Manchester native and ex-Manasquan basketball star, commits to UConn

Date:

Manchester native and five-star recruit Darius Adams announced his college commitment Monday, with the 6-5 shooting guard heading to UConn to play for coach Dan Hurley and the two-time defending national champion Huskies.

Adams, a senior at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana, played as a freshman and sophomore at Manasquan High School, leading the program to its first-ever NJSIAA state championship, winning the 2023 Group 2 title.

Adams had narrowed his choices down to UConn, Tennessee and Michigan State. The 6-5 sharpshooter, ranked as the No. 22 prospect nationally in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports, had numerous offers, including from Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John’s.

“It’s close to home and the coaches, I love being around them. Seeing practice, I really liked it. I want to be pushed hard, I want to earn something, so I think I will do that there,” said Adams on the internet broadcast of his commitment with 247Sports.

“Everyone has the same goal there. They want to get better, and I want to put myself in that position. (Hurley) makes his players better, the way he gets his players open is just amazing. I’m excited for it.”

During his two years at Manasquan, Adams scored 1,079 points, averaging 20.4 points-per-game during the 2022-23 season, and hitting for 26 points in their Shore Conference Tournament final win over Ranney.

Last season, Adams averaged 15.1 ppg. for La Lumiere, which competes against some of the top high school programs in the country, while connecting on 41 percent of his 3-pointers.

Adams was surrounded by his family as he made his announcement from their home in Manchester. Adams’ older sister, Destiny, was heavily recruited out of Manchester High School, playing two seasons at North Carolina before transferring to Rutgers, where she is a senior this season.

UConn is reportedly looking at two more shooting guards from the Class of 2025 in Braylon Mullins from Greenfield, Indiana and Meleek Thomas from Atlanta.
