Darlinstone Dubar in concussion protocol, will not play for Tennessee basketball vs Miami

Date:

NEW YORK − Darlinstone Dubar is out for Tennessee basketball against Miami on Tuesday.

UT announced the senior guard is in concussion protocol, which makes him the third player sidelined as the No. 1 Vols (8-0) play the Hurricanes (3-6) in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. He is with the Vols in New York and is considered day to day.

Dubar is averaging 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game in four games. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard did not play in the first four games while attending to an undisclosed personal matter.

Tennessee has eight available scholarship players without Dubar.

The Vols, who entered the season with 11 scholarship players, have three sidelined in Dubar, sophomore guard Cam Carr and sophomore forward J.P. Estrella.

Estrella is out for the season after undergoing season-ending foot surgery in late November. The 6-foot-11 Estrella played in three games before the foot injury that bothered him through the offseason persisted and caused him to have surgery. He averaged 4.7 points in 10.3 minutes per game.

Carr is in the midst of a four to six week absence with a left thumb injury, which he suffered against Austin Peay on Nov. 17. The 6-5 Carr averaging 4.8 points in 10.5 minutes per game.

Dubar is the second Vol to be in concussion protocol this season. Freshman guard Bishop Boswell missed UT’s season-opening win against Gardner-Webb for the same issue.

Darlinstone Dubar transferred to Tennessee from Hofstra

Dubar averaged 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 39.9% on 3-pointers as a senior at Hofstra last season. Dubar was named second-team All-Coastal Athletic Association. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native began his career at Iowa State.

Dubar averaged 11.7 points and shot 38.1% on 3-pointers in his first four seasons.
