Duquesne Basketball to Host Double-Header on Opening Night

Date:

On November 4, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Duquesne will host season-opening games in a double-header, according to a report by Spencer Thomas.

Duquesne basketball on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by The Summit Academy: setting young men on the path to a better future.

Thomas reported that the men’s game against Lipscomb and the women’s matchup against Princeton will be a back-to-back affair at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Duquesne’s women’s team finished last season 21-13 overall and 13-5 in the Atlantic 10, qualifying for the Women’s NIT. There, the Dukes took down Monmouth before falling to Purdue. Dan Burt’s team returns star Megan McConnell to the court this year, and brings in several important newcomers via the transfer portal and a talented high-school class. Jerni Kiaku returns, while Gabby Hutcherson (Pitt transfer) enters the mix.

On the men’s side, Duquesne’s contest against Lipscomb will be the first game of the Dru Joyce III era. Last year’s team won the Atlantic 10 Tournament and took down BYU in an NCAA Tournament upset, and now, Keith Dambrot has retired and Joyce has taken over. The Dukes return Jakub Necas, Jake DiMichele, Kareem Rozier, and David Dixon, while bringing in a loaded transfer class that includes Tre Dinkins, Eli Wilborn, Cam Crawford, Jahsean Corbett, Alex Williams, and Max Edwards.
