Eagles’ Brandon Graham apologizes after commenting on Jalen Hurts-A.J. Brown relationship: ‘We all make mistakes’

Date:

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham has done a lot of apologizing since Monday night after commenting on the relationship between quarterback Jalen Hurts and receiver A.J. Brown.

Graham, who is out for the season with a torn triceps, went on local sports radio station 94.1 WIP Monday and spoke about Hurts and Brown. There had been speculation about their relationship since their win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Following the game, Brown (who hasn’t been seeing much action lately) pointedly told the media that he feels the passing game needs work, and that he and Hurts don’t communicate much during games to discuss and fix what might not be working.

With many Eagles fans wondering what might be up with Hurts and Brown, who are known to be close friends (Hurts is the godfather to Brown’s baby daughter), Graham was asked for his take during his radio interview. He then metaphorically stepped into a bucket labeled “team stuff you don’t talk about in public.”

“The person that’s complaining needs to be accountable,” Graham said on WIP. “I don’t know the whole story, but I know that 1 [Hurts] is trying and 11 [Brown] could be a little better with how he responds to things. They were friends before this, but things have changed, and I understand that because life happens. But it’s the business side, that we have to make sure the personal doesn’t get in the way of the business.”

Just a few hours later, Graham told ESPN’s Tim McManus that he had talked out of turn.

Graham appeared on WIP again Tuesday morning, clarifying and apologizing for his previous comments.

Drama escaping the practice facility and going public is never great for a team, but as Graham said, he’s positive this can be something the Eagles (including himself) can learn and grow from, since they’re all still focused on the main thing: winning.
