League Two Harrogate Town beat Liverpool Under-21s on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the EFL Trophy.

Jack Muldoon’s 44th-minute strike for the Sulphurites was cancelled out by James Norris 15 minutes from time at Wetherby Road.

But Harrogate ran out 4-2 winners in the shoot-out to gain an extra point after Terence Miles saw his spot-kick saved by Mark Oxley and Trent Kone-Doherty hit the bar.

Manchester United Under-21s also won on penalties at Doncaster Rovers after coming from two goals behind to draw 3-3.

Sam Mather put United ahead but Doncaster struck back through Joe Sbarra, Ephraim Yeboah and George Broadbent to lead 3-1.

Ethan Ennis netted for the Red Devils before Louis Jackson completed the comeback deep into stoppage time. Goalkeeper Dermot Mee saved Broadbent’s spot-kick in the shootout as United won 5-3.

Tottenham Hotspur’s youngsters fell to a 2-0 defeat at League One Exeter City, who scored two second-half goals through Millenic Alli and Jake Richards.

Rob Holding played his first senior game for 12 months for Crystal Palace Under-21s who won 3-1 at Gillingham thanks to goals from Jemiah Umolu, Franco Umeh and Hindolo Mustapha.

Marcus Wyllie bagged a late consolation goal for a Gills side which featured ex-Palace midfielder Jonny Williams.

Kellan Gordon and Sam Austin helped Notts County to a 2-1 win at Burton Albion as both sides made 10 changes from their respective League Two and League One games at the weekend.

Ben Whitfield pulled one back late on for the hosts.

Harvey Vale scored twice for Chelsea Under 21s as they won 3-2 away at League Two Bromley.

A third-minute strike by 18-year-old Donnell McNeilly gave the visitors the lead but the Ravens were level after just six minutes through Levi Amantchi.

Vale scored either side of the break before Ashley Charles’ late goal for the hosts.
