EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso business was significantly damaged after it caught fire early Tuesday morning, Dec. 10 in Central El Paso.
The El Paso Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Kris Menendez says a total of 24 firefighters and six units responded to a structure fire just before 5 a.m. at 1118 El Paso St. near the El Paso Community College Rio Grande campus.
A bystander who was passing by the business saw the fire and dialed 911.
Menendez says the fire was extinguished rapidly within eight minutes and the business was vacant when the fire took place.
Menendez says the fire was significant but no injuries have been reported.
“There was some exterior damage that was caused by the fire also with some smoke damage and again the fire is under investigation and no injuries to our firefighters nor was there any injuries to civilians,” Menendez said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Menendez says.
Menendez also says that if anyone sees an emergency to dial 911 immediately instead of trying to take care of it.
“The holidays are here, if you see an emergency, if you see a fire, call 911 immediately. Don’t delay. Even though you think you can put the fire out, sometimes we can’t and that delays in calling 911 makes the fire bigger,” Menendez said.
