Encouraging update on the Cats’ pursuit of Chris Cenac

Date:

John Calipari helped make the Kentucky Wildcats one of the premier destinations for 5-star talent, but even without him, the program may remain a hotbed for future NBA talent.

Since adding Mark Pope, Kentucky has been able to get commits from several big-time 2025 recruits. The Cats didn’t have many players signed for this upcoming season, so Pope heavily used the transfer portal.

In the future, that might be as much the case. The Cats have recently gained commitments from Malachi Moreno, the third-best center in the class of 2025, and Jasper Johnson, the second-best shooting guard, just this past Thursday.

The Wildcats appear to be a real possibility for Chris Cenac, a consensus top-20 recruit in 2025.

Here’s a positive update on the Cats’ involvement in his recruitment from On3’s Jamie Shaw.

“Another school that sources bring up regularly with Cenac is Kentucky. I am told that the 6-foot-10 forward views it as a plus that Malachi Moreno, the No. 1 center in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, is committed in the class. I am told that Cenac wants to play power forward and does not feel there would be positional overlap.” Shaw wrote.

LSU is currently seen as one of, if not the favorite for Cenac, a New Orleans native, but it sounds like Kentucky is firmly in the hunt. Adding a player of his talent would be huge for the Cats. Cenac was recently tabbed one of the top risers in the 2025 class and is already ranked fifth overall at On3.

At 6-foot-10, he clearly doesn’t view the addition of Moreno as a problem, and the duo could wreak havoc in college, especially on the defensive end and around the rim.

Only a few of the top-15 recruits in the class of 2025 have already committed, so Pope may still have a few incoming visits.
