Ex AC Milan & Real Madrid Coach Expects Italy Star To Get More Inter Milan Playing Time: ‘He Has All The Right Qualities’

Date:

Legendary former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello expects Davide Frattesi to see an uptick in his playing time at Inter Milan.

Capello gave his thoughts in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

Frattesi is now in his second season as an Inter player.

The Nerazzurri certainly made a big investment when they signed the Italian international from Sassuolo last summer. The fee approached 40 million.

But in spite of that, Frattesi has not yet carved out a place for himself in the Nerazzurri’s first-choice starting eleven.

There is a reason for that. Inter have a regular midfield trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella.

And Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi virtually always stuck with those three last season in the big matches.

Meanwhile, this summer, Piotr Zielinski arrived on a free transfer from Napoli.

The Pole is certainly a formidable addition to the pecking order in midfield. He has been one of Serie A’s most highly-regarded midfielders across eight seasons at Napoli.

Capello: “Davide Frattesi Will Get More Playing Time At Inter Milan”

Capello said that “Frattesi is the classic mezzala who has the sense for when to make a forward run.”

“He has an eye for goal, and many other characteristics that are important for a team.”

“Against France he hit the crossbar from a good position. But he still scored, and forced a miraculous save out of Maignan.”

“I believe he’s fundamental for Italy’s style of play,” Capello said of Frattesi.

“But even if Inzaghi has Barella and Mkhitaryan, I’m convinced that this season he’ll have quite a few more opportunities to show his worth at the Nerazzurri,” the former coach anticipated.

Capello said that the reason for this is that “There is going to have to be even more squad rotation.”
