Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere re-joined the Carolina Hurricanes on a three-year, $9.6 million contract this off-season. This was after the 5-foot-11 defender posted 10 goals and 56 points in 81 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2023-24.

So far, it’s a move that is benefitting the Hurricanes immensely, as Gostisbehere is playing magnificently. In his first nine games with the Canes, the 2012 third-round pick has four goals, nine points, and a plus-3 rating. He is also showing no signs of slowing down, either, as he has six points in his last five games.
The Flyers know very well that Gostisbehere can be a real offensive threat when he is playing at his best. In 381 games over seven seasons as a Flyer, he had 60 goals and 219 points. This includes his career-best season in 2017-18, where he had 13 goals and set career highs with 52 assists and 65 points in 78 games.
It will now be interesting to see how well Gostisbehere builds off his strong start with the Canes. So far, he has been a real home run for them.
