Ex-Roma man Diego Perotti speaks fondly of Ranieri, discusses Soulé’s potential

Former Roma attacker Diego Perotti weighed in on the current situation reigning in the Italian capital.

With the arrival of Claudio Ranieri – whom Perotti worked with in 2019 – the Argentine winger spoke fondly of the veteran technician in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

On his relationship with Roma, Perotti noted, “I have never been a great goalscorer, so having scored in Totti and De Rossi’s final games which were so emotionally and sportingly important gave me an eternal bond with Roma and its fans.”

“Ranieri? He is the perfect person for this delicate moment. He knows the place, the environment as well as De Rossi who in my opinion would have deserved more time to sort out the team.”

“Now with Claudio, Roma has played it safe, for me it is a gamble already won and will bring the team back to the top,” he added.

“He is the perfect person, he knows what he is taking on his shoulders, he has the support of the fans and with his experience he can relate to the older players as well as the youngsters.”

“He is the right solution to start again, the most concrete and the most suitable.”

“Ranieri gives you energy while remaining calm, without shouting, and not everyone is able to do this.”

“He keeps you focused, he brings out your grit and nastiness without having to give a thousand instructions with gestures, shouts or insults.”

“He transmits clarity, he is always close to the players, he is a father figure for the locker room. In delicate moments, like this one in which pressure and tension envelop the locker room, Ranieri knows how to bring you back to a sense of calm, clarity and attention to the match, directing the focus exclusively on what needs to be done on the pitch.”

“He never needs to raise his voice to make himself heard. And then it is beautiful to see a coach who loves to solve problems, especially those of his favorite team. This team in my opinion is very strong, Ranieri will be able to enhance it.”

“Soulé? Matias is very strong for me, I was surprised that Juve let him go. For me he will become a champion, he is a different player in terms of quality and creativity.”

“He is in a difficult moment but be careful, he does not hide and continues to ask for the ball, to play with mental freedom to get out of this situation. He needs two or three well-played games to emerge.”

“There is little to say about Dybala. Perhaps they underestimate one thing: he is a World Champion, he scored a penalty in the final, he has impressive qualities. You can’t question him, he is the added value of Roma and he will lead them this season.”
