Exclusive | John Fanta joining NBC Sports as network increases college basketball coverage

Date:

NBC is adding college basketball voices as it expands its coverage of the sport with the Big East.

Rising star Fox play-by-play broadcaster John Fanta is joining NBC to call Big Ten and Big East games, The Post has learned.

Fanta will continue to work at Fox, sources said.

John Fanta is joining NBC Sports to call Big Ten and Big East basketball, and he will also remain a broadcaster for Fox Sports.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment and a rep for Fanta did not respond to a message from The Post.

NBC and Fox have a similar situation where former Purdue standout Robbie Hummel works for both as a color commentator.

Last week, NBC announced a slate of more than 150 men’s and women’s college basketball games, spread across the Big Ten, Big East (men’s only) and Atlantic-10.

The games will air between NBC, USA Network and Peacock, which will have 120 games exclusive to the streaming service.

NBC will continue to be in basketball talent acquisition mode as it returns to NBA live rights for the first time since 2002.

While play-by-play is mostly set as Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle are expected to be the top two game callers, the network will need to add a studio show, color commentators and sideline reporters.

NBC is also adding a lot of WNBA inventory, including rotating with ESPN and Amazon to air the league’s Finals, as part of a deal with the NBA.
