England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith’s score dropped from 91 to 89 well after he had been dismissed during the third Test against Pakistan. Here’s why.
England captain won the toss and chose to bat first in Rawalpindi in the final match of the series, on a wicket that was expected to turn from early on in the match.
Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett put on 56 for the first wicket, but there was a slide through the middle overs as Sajid Khan and Noman Ali wreaked havoc to leave the visitors at 98-5, and then 118-6.

But thereafter, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith showcased the attacking range of shots which had been on show at times during the English home summer. In just under two hours at the crease, Smith managed to drag England to 241 by the time he was the eighth wicket to fall. They were eventually bowled out for 267.
When he was dismissed, caught behind of Zahid Mahmood, Smith’s score read 91, nine short of a well-deserved century. However, thirty minutes later, the official scorecard displayed his score as 89.
Why did Jamie Smith’s score drop from 91 to 89?
It emerged only after Smith had been dismissed, that one of his boundaries had initially been marked as a six, before being corrected to four runs. This was his shot off Sajid Khan in the 59th over of the innings, when Smith shuffled down the track and hit him down the ground.
It initially appeared that the ball had gone over the ropes, but it had in fact bounced before going over, an error the scorers rectified later on.
