FBI agents and other law enforcement officers were carrying out a series of arrest raids targeting the Chuco Tango gang in various parts of the El Paso area.
The early morning raids Thursday, Aug. 29, involved agents of the FBI, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety in a federal operation in El Paso and Las Cruces.
Suspects are being processed at the El Paso County Coliseum because of the anticipated large number of arrests. Agents could be seen outside the coliseum where a mobile communications hub was also set up.
Chuco Tango is a prison gang that has become increasingly active on El Paso’s streets in recent years.

Chuco Tango is the El Paso version of the Tango Blast gang, which has groups in major Texas cities. The prison-formed gang gets its name from the nickname “El Chuco” for El Paso.
