LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men’s basketball team and head coach Ritchie McKay have added Drew Grimes for the 2025-26 academic year.
Grimes is a 6-9 forward who hails from Goldsboro, N.C. and currently attends Clayton High School in Clayton, N.C.
“He’s one of those guys that people will talk about in 24 months and wonder where he came from,” said Liberty Men’s Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay. “He’s got terrific upside and athletic prowess and is a wonderful individual that has a leadership gift on his life. We’re really excited to have him as a part of our program.”
As a junior during the 2023-24 season, Grimes averaged 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and was named Player of the Year. The forward was also an efficient shooter, knocking down 53 percent of his field goal attempts and 43 percent of his three-pointers.
Grimes was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. During his freshman campaign, he was an all-conference selection.
Grimes is the second announced signee in Liberty’s class, joining Zander Carter (Greenup, Ky.).
