Three First Coast high school golfers are among the leaders tied at the top after the first round of the FHSAA Class 2A state championship on Friday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills.
Junior Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island, who won the Class 3A individual title in 2023, played his last seven holes at 2-under with no bogeys at the El Campeon Course and posted a 4-under 68 to tie Sohan Patel of American Heritage Broward for the lead in the boys tournament.
With senior Emmet Kuhlenkamp (69) tying for third with a perfect card over his last 12 holes, the Golden Eagles, the Clss 3A state champions last year, have a 21-shot lead in the team standings over American Heritage at 3-over 291.
Carson Moore of Fleming Island (76) tied for 12th with Luke Splane of St. Augustine.
Fernandina Beach duo lead girls 2A
Sadaly Campbell and Elle Reisner of Fernandina Beach are among a four-way tie for first in the girls 2A tournament at the Las Colinas Course at 3-over 74. Campbell played her last four holes even par and Reisner parred her last five holes.
There is a three-way tie for the team lead at 33-over among South Walton Santa Rosa, SLAM Academy and Lakeland McKeel. Fernandina did not have another player inside the top 90 and is 16th as a team at 98-over. Stanton, led by Lily Chiang (79) in a tie for 19th, is tied for 11th at 75-over.
