While on a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov is generating trade interest around the league.

Here is what LeBrun said on the matter:

“Ivan Provorov figures to be the No. 1 rental defenseman traded before March 7th, but the Columbus Blue Jackets are calling to several teams that have reached out, telling them they are not ready to deal him quite yet… The business of the game will take over at some point here… They will most likely deal Provorov. The asking price will be a first-round pick, which is obviously pretty rich.”

It is not too surprising that Provorov is drawing trade interest at this point of the season. The 27-year-old would be a big addition for playoff clubs looking to improve their top four. However, based on LeBrun’s report, the Blue Jackets are not in a rush to move him right now, even with interest increasing.

However, with the Blue Jackets being a rebuilding team and sporting an 8-9-2 record, Provorov should become fully available once we get closer to the deadline. He is too valuable of an asset for Columbus not to move.

Provorov was selected seventh overall by the Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. In 532 games over seven seasons as a Flyer, he had 65 goals, 217 points, and 693 hits.
