Former La Masia captain will be Barcelona’s pivot against Girona – report

Date:

According to a recent report from SPORT, unless there is a last-minute change, Marc Casado will be Barcelona’s pivot today in their clash against Girona.

The 21-year-old Catalan midfielder, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday, has already shown his ability in this position, having played as the pivot in Barcelona’s last league match against Valladolid.

Casado’s inclusion in the starting lineup has largely been due to Marc Bernal’s unfortunate injury during the game against Rayo Vallecano. Following Bernal’s exit, Flick turned to the young midfielder, making him his preferred choice for the central role.

One man’s pain is another man’s pleasure

Casado first made his mark in the opening league match of the season against Valencia, which took place on 17 August. Although Barcelona secured a 2-1 victory, Casado shared defensive duties with Marc Bernal and Raphinha.

Despite his solid performance, he did not appear in the next two matches, against Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano. However, he returned to the starting lineup for the game against Valladolid before the international break.

In that match, Casado played for 61 minutes, helping Barcelona establish a comfortable 3-0 lead before he was substituted by Eric. During his time on the pitch, he had an outstanding 98% passing accuracy, successfully completing 63 out of 64 passes.

His ball control was nearly flawless, losing possession only once, and he also demonstrated his defensive prowess. Casado committed two fouls, was dribbled past twice, but overall displayed impressive physicality in the centre-back role.

With Bernal still sidelined, Casado has another opportunity to showcase his abilities and solidify his position in the team.

His recent performances suggest he has what it takes to handle the pressure and responsibility that comes with playing for a club as prestigious as Barcelona.

Fans will be eager to see how he performs against Girona, as his influence could be vital in securing another victory for Hansi Flick’s side.
