Former Penguins Player Hospitalized After Assault At Arizona Restaurant

Date:

Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward and enforcer Paul Bissonnette was hospitalized after an alleged assault at Houston’s restaurant in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Sunday, Fox 10 Phoenix reports.

“There was an altercation inside the restaurant with six adult men and the management,” Scottsdale Police Sgt. Allison Sempsis told Fox 10 Phoenix. “Reportedly, Paul Bissonnette tried to help management calm the men and get them to leave. The situation escalated to the men assaulting Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside of the restaurant.”

Bissonnette, 39, was then sent to the hospital and treated for his injuries, which do not appear to be life-threatening, according to Scottsdale police. The men responsible for the attack were detained for assault and disorderly conduct but not identified.

In a video posted to social media, Bissonnette claimed there were seven assailants, but that only six were arrested. He said that he would reveal more of the story in the Tuesday episode of Spittin’ Chiclets, a podcast he co-hosts with former Penguins teammate Ryan Whitney.

The former NHL player-turned-media-personality played in just 15 games for the Penguins during the 2008-09 season. He registered one assist and 22 penalty minutes during his brief tenure in Pittsburgh.

Bissonnette recorded seven goals and 22 points over the course of his six-year NHL career between Pittsburgh and Arizona.
