Former Sabres Defenseman Hangs Up The Skates

Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Marco Scandella has retired from professional hockey. He confirmed this to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Matthew DeFranks.

Scandella, 34, completed his five-year stint with the Blues this past season. In 65 games last season with the Central Division club, he had two goals, eight points, 70 hits, and a plus-2 rating.

Scandella spent three of his NHL seasons as a member of the Sabres. In 176 games as a Sabre, the 6-foot-3 defender had 14 goals, 44 points, and 182 hits. Scandella’s time with the Sabres ended when he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens during the 2019-20 season.

In 784 career NHL games over 14 seasons split between the Minnesota Wild, Sabres, Canadiens, and Blues, Scandella had 51 goals, 170 points, and a plus-11 rating.
