Fort Collins is losing its Joann fabric and crafts store after all.
All of the retailer’s stores will have going-out-of-business sales and close after the company assets were auctioned off over the weekend, according to USA TODAY.
Joann filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month and earlier this month said it was closing 500 of its 850 stores, including six in Colorado: Boulder, Centennial, Aurora (two stores), Loveland and Pueblo.
But Fort Collins’ store at 2701 S. College Ave. was not on the list.
The company’s remaining assets were put up for auction, and retail liquidator GA Group and Joann’s term lenders won the bidding over the weekend, USA TODAY reported.
Joann has been open for more than 20 years in Fort Collins, first at 2839 S. College Ave. before moving to its current location around 2011.
A call to the Fort Collins store Monday afternoon was met with a voice recording that said: “This is a very difficult time given the impact (the bankruptcy) will have on our beloved team members, customers and community.”
When will Joann close in Fort Collins?
The voice recording said final dates have not been established but liquidation sales have begun at some locations and will continue in the coming months.
The Akron Beacon Journal — part of the USA TODAY Network — reported that most of the stores in the company, which is based in Ohio, would remain open until the end of May.
What are Joann’s going-out-of-business sales?
Information about specific discounts isn’t available online, but USA TODAY reported that going-out-of-business discounts ranged from 10% to 20%, with some Christmas items discounted at 75%.
“Only inventory available on-site at those stores will be part of the closing sales,” the company said in a news release.
Can I still return items to a Joann store?
Returns are not being accepted at any Joann store, according to an FAQ on Joann’s restructuring website.
Can I still use a gift card or get other discounts?
Gift cards will be accepted through Feb. 28. Also, JOANN.com and the mobile app will operate during the wind-down operations, the restructuring website said.
Discounts for Girl Scouts, teachers, military and other workers are paused.
