FSU basketball vs. Tulane: How to watch, game notes

Florida State Seminoles basketball (7-3, 0-1 ACC) will look to snap a two-game losing streak today in a neutral site matchup vs. the Tulane Green Wave.

FSU, coming off an overtime loss to the NC State Wolfpack, will head down to Sunrise, FL as part of the Orange Bowl Classic.

Tulane has struggled to find consistency this season, starting off 4-1 before going on a five-game losing streak that was snapped just four days ago in an 86-58 win over Southern Miss. The two schools, former conference mates in the Metro, have met 38 times previously with FSU leading the series 26-12. Tulane hasn’t beaten FSU since 1995 (78-77 in New Orleans) wile Florida State is riding a three-game winning streak in the series.

Forward Kaleb Banks, after transferring to Tulane from Indiana, has become a key figure for the Green Wave — the junior is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 16.1 PPG, and the squad’s leading rebounder (7.3 RPG). Guard Rowan Brumbaugh (13.3 PPG, 5 APG), forward Gregg Glenn III (8.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG), and Kam Williams (39.7% 3PT shooter, 2.19 steals per game) are also names to watch.

Florida State vs. Tulane tips off at 4:40 p.m. ET from Sunrise, with the game set to be broadcast on the ACC Network. FSU is considered a 10.5-point favorite in the eyes of FanDuel, with the over/under set at 147.5.

FLORIDA STATE PLAYS TULANE IN AUTONATION ORANGE BOWL CLASSIC

Florida State will play in the AutoNation Orange Bowl Classic for the 10th consecutive season as it faces Tulane of the America Athletic Conference on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 4:30 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla. The Seminoles face the Green Wave for the fourth time in the last eight seasons and on a neutral court for the seventh time in the history of the series. Florida State is 7-0 when they have played the Green Wave on neutral court at locations including Bloomington, Minn., Memphis, Tenn., Miami, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., for a second time, Orlando in the 1993 NCAA Tournament, and most recently at the Amalie Arena in Tampa on February 10, 2017. The Seminoles’ series against Tulane includes seven games against the Green Wave when Perry Clark (today’s color analyst for the ACC Network) was their head coach from 1989 through 2000. The Seminoles were 5-2 against Clark and his Tulane teams. Following Saturday’s game against Tulane, the Seminoles play host to Winthrop on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

FLORIDA STATE VS. TULANE – CONNECTIONS

Florida State travels to play Tulane in the Orange Bowl Classic on December 14, 2024 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla. The Seminoles have won three straight, and six of the last seven games against Tulane since an 85- 79 win over the Green Wave on February 2, 1991. The Seminoles and the Green Wave will meet for the 39th time and for the first time in the Orange Bowl Classic. Florida State leads the all-time series by a 26-12 margin. Florida State and Tulane were members of the Metro Conference from 1975-85 and from 1989-91. Ron Hunter is in his third season as the head coach at Tulane. In three stops as a head coach at IUPUI (1995-2011), Georgia State (2012- 19), and Tulane (2020-21), has faced the Seminoles once – a 59-54 Florida State win at the Donald L. Tucker Center on November 17, 2021. Ray McCallum is an assistant coach on Hunter’s staff and faced the Seminoles twice at the Donald L. Tucker Center. First as Detroit Mercy’s head coach on November 20, 2016 – a 100-71 Florida State victory — and for the second time in 2021 as a member of Hunter’s staff at Tulane. Claude Pardue and Seam Mock, both assistant coaches on Hunter’s staff, have faced the Seminoles once during their coaching careers – as members of the Tulane staff during the 2021-22 season.

FLORIDA STATE AND TULANE AS METRO CONFERENCE TEAMS

Florida State and Tulane played as members of the Metro Conference from the 1976-77 season through the 1984- 85 season and then again during the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons. The Seminoles earned a 15-9 record against Tulane as members of the Metro Conference. FLORIDA STATE’S HISTORY IN THE ORANGE BOWL CLASSIC Florida State owns an 9-4 record in 13 previous Orange Bowl Classic appearances and enters the 2024 Classic having won nine of their last 12 games with victories over Nebraska (2005), Western Kentucky (2008), Tulsa (2012), UMass (2013), USF (2014), Florida Atlantic (2016), Manhattan (2017), Saint Louis (2018) and USF (2019). The Seminoles are 3-1 in the Orange Bowl Classic against teams from the state of Florida with two victories over USF and one over Florida Atlantic.

SEMINOLES TO WEAR SPECIAL TURQUOISE UNIFORMS AGAINST GREEN WAVE

Florida State will wear its distinctive Nike Seminole Heritage turquoise uniforms in its game against Tulane. It marks the 30th time the Seminoles will wear the uniforms since first wearing them on November 17, 2013, in an 89-61 win over UT Martin. It’s the first time the Seminole have worn the uniforms against Tulane. Florida State most recently wore the turquoise unforms in its 79-61 victory over Hofstra on November 19, 2024. The Seminoles are 21-8 when wearing the special Seminole Heritage turquoise uniforms.

…Defeat Tulane and gain its fourth consecutive victory over the Green Wave. The Seminoles defeated Tulane in 2017 in Tampa, in 2018 in New Orleans, and in 2021 at the Donald L. The Seminoles have won nine of their last 11 games played in the series since defeating Tulane, 74-51, on February 6, 1985; …Win its third game of the season against a team from the American Athletic Conference.
