Fulham vs Newcastle: Preview, predictions and lineups

Newcastle are on the road for the second consecutive weekend as they travel to the capital to take on Marco Silva’s Fulham.

The Magpies were pretty dire away from home last season, but they did enjoy their visits to Craven Cottage – securing victories in the FA Cup and Premier League at Fulham’s ground.

They’ve started on a positive note on their travels this term, with a Harvey Barnes screamer helping Eddie Howe’s side overturn a 1-0 deficit at Wolves last weekend. Unlike their upcoming opponents, Newcastle enjoyed the week off, but they will be in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night.

Fulham were involved in a record-breaking penalty shootout defeat on Tuesday as they exited the Carabao Cup despite successfully converting 15 penalties against second-tier Preston. Silva’s side once again look balanced and stable despite the summer exit of Joao Palhinha, and they were moments away from securing another victory over West Ham last weekend before Danny Ings struck at the death.

Here is 90min’s guide to Saturday’s Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.

Fulham team news

Saturday’s hosts have just one injury concern heading into Saturday’s game. Silva is set to be without reserve striker Carlos Vinicius due to a minor calf injury, but the former Tottenham forward isn’t expected to be sidelined for very long.

The manager made wholesale changes for the Cottagers’ dramatic cup defeat in the week, so Fulham’s key starters will return to the fold well-rested.

Raul Jimenez could keep Rodrigo Muniz out of the side, and we could see loanee Reiss Nelson team up with his former Arsenal teammates Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi in Saturday’s XI.

Fulham predicted lineup vs Newcastle

Fulham predicted lineup vs Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Pereira; Nelson, Smith Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez.

Newcastle team news

Sandro Tonali could make his first Premier League start since returning from his lengthy betting suspension on Saturday having come off the bench at Molineux last weekend. The Italian would likely replace Sean Longstaff in the XI if he was to come back in.

Joe Willock has returned from injury and is once again in contention, but Callum Wilson remains sidelined for the visitors. There’s also doubt over Alexander Isak’s status for Saturday’s trip to London, so we could see Anthony Gordon utilised in a central role up top.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, and Lewis Miley all remain out with long-term injuries.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs Fulham (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Barnes.

Fulma vs Newcastle score prediction

Isak’s potential absence would, of course, be significant, but Newcastle’s record against Fulham is impressive. The Magpies have won the previous six meetings between the two sides, with the Cottagers’ last victory in this fixture arriving in 2017 when the pair were competing in the Championship.

Newcastle’s success against Silva’s side will fill the visitors with plenty of confidence despite their current injury concerns, although Fulham’s stability and balance should allow them to compete fiercely in almost every game this season, especially at home.

This has the makings of an entertaining affair, and we’ll back the visitors to carry the momentum gained from last weekend’s win at Wolves into Saturday’s fixture.
