NEW DELHI: Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s famous one-liner, “garden mein ghoom raha hai kya,” once again made headlines during the warm-up match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI on Sunday.
This time, it was pacer Mohammed Siraj who borrowed Rohit’s famous one-liner to vent his frustration in a situation where the phrase was perfectly fitting.
Siraj opened the bowling for India ahead of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, challenging the Aussie openers with his sharp, incisive deliveries.
However, the right-arm pacer’s focus was briefly disrupted by a sight-screen mishap. After conceding a single off his first ball, Siraj bowled three consecutive dot balls to put pressure on Matt Renshaw.
But just as he was about to deliver his fifth ball, Renshaw stepped out of his stance, halting Siraj’s run-up. The southpaw was visibly irritated by a security person who had blocked the sight screen by moving around in the stands.
Noticing this, Siraj couldn’t help but vent his frustration, shouting, “Ae bhai, garden mein ghoom raha hai kya?” (Hey brother, are you wandering in a garden?).
Siraj was in excellent form during the series opener against Australia in Perth, where he claimed five wickets in the match. He continued his solid performances in the warm-up game against the Prime Minister’s XI, taking 1 wicket for 18 runs in 7 overs.
