Gascoigne advises unhappy Rashford to move to Serie A: ‘It will shake him up’

Former Lazio star Paul Gascoigne advised Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford to ‘go to Italy’, as he believes a move to Serie A could help him bounce back from a difficult situation at Old Trafford.

The English international’s goal tally dropped dramatically last season, as he only scored eight times from 43 appearances in all competitions, and it looked like his poor performances mirrored the whole team’s struggles under manager Erik Ten Hag.

Reflecting on the 26-year-old’s situation, Gascoigne claimed that a move to Italy would ‘shake him up’ in a moment in which he ‘doesn’t seem happy’.

Gascoigne urges Rashford to leave Manchester United: ‘Go to Italy’

“I love Rashford, I think he’s an unbelievable player but he just doesn’t seem to care,” Gascoigne told SportsCasting.

“Even when he scores, he doesn’t seem happy about it so there’s something going on there.

“If that’s the case just move on. You get a couple of players that move on and then they find something different. For Rashford, he doesn’t seem happy playing in England anyway. And some good clubs will come in for him. Go to Italy, that’ll shake him up.”

Gascoigne joined Lazio from Tottenham and played in Serie A for three seasons between 1992 and 1995, scoring six goals in total in the Italian top-tier.

As for Rashford, the English forward started the current season by finding the net four times in 11 games across four different competitions, but Manchester United only sit 14th in the Premier League table, having picked up just two wins from seven league games.
