Georgia Assistants reclaim “Assistants Cup” over Tennessee

Date:

ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia PGA Assistants’ reclaimed the Cup from the Tennessee PGA Assistants’ in the 30th edition of the Assistants’ Cup Matches, 14-10. Georgia now goes 1UP in the series with 14 victories (TN with 13) overall and there have been three ties.

This year’s matches were played at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club, in Flowery Branch, GA on October 7-8.

Each team is composed of the top ten Assistants’ Division Player of the Year point leaders, plus two Captains Choices. This year’s team was led by Captain, Tyler Hays, PGA of Atlanta CC & Vice-Captain, Matt Sanders, PGA of West Pines GC. The rest of the team included Jin Chung, PGA of Chateâu Élan GC, Landon Coontz of West Lake CC, Ryan Emery of Mizuno USA, Justin Mattheis of Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee, Chris Nicol, of The Kingdom at Reynolds, Brock Nixon of CC of the South, Hunter Suggs of Cherokee Town & CC, Chad Thomas of West Pines GC, Ian Trace, PGA of Peachtree GC, and David Ward, PGA of The Standard Club.

The morning Four-Ball Matches did not go as planned with Team Tennessee PGA claiming a 4-2 advantage. However the afternoon Foursome Matches flipped and Team Georgia PGA found themselves tied 6-6 heading into Tuesday’s Singles Matches.

Team Georgia PGA zoned in on the Keith Burdette Cup as they won 8 out of the 12 matches to make sure the Cup stays in Georgia for at least a year. We want to thank Turtleson Apparel and Branded Bills hats for supplying the team uniforms.
