Giants hold on to edge rusher Azeez Ojulari as NFL trade deadline passes

Date:

Despite the Giants being in the midst of another disappointing season and other teams having interest, Big Blue did not end up trading edge rusher Azeez Ojulari ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, “several teams showed a strong interest” in Ojulari, but ultimately teams did not want to pay the “high” asking price.

Ojulari, 24, was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Georgia, and he lived up to lofty expectations as a rookie, starting 13 games and recording 8.0 sacks, setting the Giants record for sacks by a rookie.

Ankle and calf injuries limited him to just seven games during his second season, and his production wasn’t quite the same after that. In 2023, Ojulari had just 2.5 sacks in 11 games.

Ojulari has rounded back into form this season, recording 8.0 sacks in nine games, giving him 22.0 sacks in 44 career games with the Giants.
