Giants Injury Update: Graham Gano returns to practice, Darius Slayton questionable

Date:

Head coach Brian Daboll provided a number of updates before the Giants’ international meeting with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday…

Graham Gano returns to practice

The Giants officially opened the 21-day return window from injured reserve for kicker Graham Gano on Wednesday.

Gano has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury on the opening kickoff during a Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders, but he’ll finally be able to get back on the practice field this week.

Big Blue has gone through numerous replacements with the veteran sidelined, including rookie Jude McAtamney who drilled a 31-yard field goal and went 1-for-1 on extra points in his NFL debut last week.

On another special teams note, with punter Jamie Gillian likely to return from an injury of his own, the Giants have added the recently released Matt Haack to their practice squad.

Both Haack and McAtamney will travel with the team in case neither is able to make their return on Sunday.

Darius Slayton dealing with a concussion

Darius Slayton missed practice again on Wednesday as he deals with a concussion sustained late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the the Commanders.

Daboll indicated that since the wide receiver is still in the early stages of the five-step concussion protocol — and he isn’t progressing as quickly as RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. did last week — there’s a chance he won’t be able to make the trip to Germany with the rest of the team.

Big Blue officially takes off for Munich on Thursday night.

Slayton has remained a consistent piece for Big Blue’s offense even after they added first-round rookie Malik Nabers to the mix, topping the 50-yard mark in five of his nine appearances this season.

If the veteran were to miss time, second-year receiver Jalin Hyatt would likely see an increased role on Sunday against the lowly Panthers secondary.

Other notes

– DT Dexter Lawrence missed practice for a veteran rest day

– G Greg Van Roten also missed practice as he deals with a shoulder injury

– CB Art Green has been signed from the practice squad to the active roster

– C Bryan Hudson has been signed from New England’s practice squad
