The Giants have signed offensive tackle Tyre Phillips and quarterback Tim Boyle to their practice squad after they worked out with the team on Tuesday.
This is now Phillips’ third stint with Big Blue, with the latest one coming last season, when he started 10 consecutive games down the stretch in place of the injured Evan Neal.
The 27-year-old stepped up and played well for a struggling unit until he suffered a torn quad in Week 17.
Phillips remained unsigned as he faced the long road to recovery this offseason, but now that he’s fully healthy and ready to potentially contribute again, the Giants took another flier.
Boyle has bounced around the league mainly as a backup for six years and his most recent experience came earlier this season when he was forced into two games for the Miami Dolphins in place of injured backups Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley.
He’s completed 62 percent of his passes in his 22 pro appearances, but he’s also turned the ball over 12 times.
Even if Boyle is just on the practice squad for now, adding a veteran like him to the mix is even further evidence that the Giants don’t plan on having Daniel Jones take another snap this season so they don’t risk triggering the injury guarantee in his contract.
