Tommy DeVito took some shots from the physical Baltimore Ravens defense on Sunday, and at halftime he was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion, a game the Giants would go on to lose 35-14.
DeVito had gone 10-of-13 for 68 yards in the first half, and ended up being evaluated after the Giants’ penultimate drive of the first half, which was capped off with a Devin Singletary touchdown.
After the game, Brian Daboll said he was speaking to DeVito on the sidelines after the drive when he noticed his QB didn’t seem quite right.
“He came off, I talked to him a little bit, and right before we were about to go out there for that two-minute drive, I went over to him and talked about a particular play, we had a couple of timeouts, and I kind of saw his eyes and I asked the trainer to come over to take a look at him,” Daboll said. “Then they took a look at him, so it was right after that touchdown series that we drove down.
Tim Boyle, who has only been with the Giants since mid-November and was just signed to the active roster this week, entered the game on the final kneel-down of the first half, and was leading the huddle as the second half began.
Boyle ended up going 12-of-24 for 123 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Daboll said the offense didn’t need to change or become limited with Boyle on the field, with coach saying the veteran quarterback “knows the plays.”
The Giants are back on the field next Sunday in Atlanta against the Falcons, and it will be well worth watching to see who gets the start at quarterback as Big Blue looks to break a nine-game losing skid.
