Gift Orban’s Trabzonspor move falls through

Date:

Despite providing two valuable goals for Olympique Lyonnais against RC Strasbourg Alsace, just before the international break, Gift Orban (22) was touted for a departure from the club.

Given Alexandre Lacazette’s decision to remain at the club, as well the the recruitment of Georges Mikautadze, it was thought that the Nigerian’s chances of earning regular first-team football were limited. As a result, OL have been open to selling Orban. Whilst there was little interest before the closure of the transfer window in France, there has been interest from Turkey, where the transfer window shuts on 13th September.

It was reported by Foot Mercato that Orban had reached an agreement with Trabzonspor, with the Turkish side also submitting a loan offer to OL. That offer included the option to make the deal permanent for €10m. However, the transfer will now not take place, according to RMC Sport, who state that talks between the two clubs broke down on Friday morning. Orban will therefore remain at Lyon.
